The joint-stock company Kuressaare Soojus was registered in the commercial register on 28.10.1996. The owner of Kuressaare Soojus shares is Saaremaa Municipality. The main activity of the joint-stock company is the production, distribution and sale of heat energy, and the production of electrical energy.

As of 31.12.2022, Kuressaare Soojus has 283 contractual district heating customers in Saaremaa, and 394 buildings are connected to the heating networks.

Energy production and sale

In Kuressaare, Kuressaare Soojus owns a combined heat and power plant and two boiler houses - Kalevi boiler house and Luha boiler house. The Kalevi boiler house has four boilers with a total capacity of 26.5

MW, two of which are fueled by wood chips and two by shale oil. In addition, a cooler-condenser for flue gases from wood chip boilers with a capacity of 2 MW has been installed in the boiler house. All boilers in the boiler house are water boilers.

Next to the Kalevi boiler house is a combined heat and power plant completed in 2013. The boiler capacity of the plant is 12 MW and the electric generator capacity is 2.4 MW. In addition, the plant has a cooler-condenser for flue gases with a capacity of 3 MW. The fuel for the combined heat and power plant is wood chips.

The Luha boiler house has two water boilers with a total capacity of 16 MW, their fuel is shale oil. The Luha boiler house is managed from the Kalevi boiler house and is usually started when the outside air temperature drops below -15°C.

In Kuressaare, AS Kuressaare Soojus owns 35.7 km of heat pipelines with diameters of 20-300 mm, of which 25.23 km (71%) are pre-insulated pipes and 5.67 km (16%) are modern insulated above-ground or underground pipelines in concrete channels.

Outside Kuressaare, Kuressaare Soojus produces and sells heat energy in Orissaare, Leisi, Pärsama,

Salme, and Kärla district heating networks. As a local heating solution, we supply heat to Valjala school and kindergarten, Tornimäe school, kindergarten and community center, Kihelkonna school, Valjala community center and the school and nursing home building in Upal.
